The Neuro-oncology Section at Stony Brook Medicine is a collaborative effort between neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, pathology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, neuro-radiology, health management, and social work experts.  We provide comprehensive care for patients with primary and metastatic brain and spinal cord tumors, skull base tumors, as well as other cancers and neurological complications of cancer.  We are proud to offer outstanding outpatient and inpatient care for our patients utilizing the most technologically advanced diagnostic and treatment options.

Our multidisciplinary approach increases the chances of successful treatment.  Together, the neuro-oncology team will map out an optimized treatment plan tailored to individual patient needs.  This treatment plan may include a combination of medication, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.  Such therapies are complemented by an integrated health care approach to address any concurrent depression, social issues, and rehabilitation needs to ensure that patients receive support in all aspects of their conditions.

At Stony Brook Medicine, research contributes to advancing medical care and gives qualified patients access to cutting-edge treatment options. Patients have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of clinical trials, possibly offering therapeutic options not available elsewhere.  We welcome inquiries from potential patients.

Stony Brook University Hospital is a teaching hospital, and clinical services are offered in a teaching environment aimed at training the next generation of clinicians. We also offer patients and patient families a variety of support groups, facilitated meetings, and reading materials covering many topics, including diet and nutrition. Our goal is to empower each patient to be an active partner in his/her care, informed about all aspects of his/her condition.
