Being a patient at Stony Brook University allows you access to exceptional care from a talented, experienced group of physicians, nurses and therapists from multiple specialties. Our advanced technologies help us to make a definitive diagnosis and then create the best treatment plan. These technologies include nerve conduction studies and electromyography to determine the conduction of nerve impulses to the muscle, and muscle / nerve biopsy to determine what disease pathology as well as genetic testing.
Patient education is an important part of our mission, and we offer frequent support groups and facilitate meetings for patients and families. Neuromuscular diseases can affect patients in a variety of ways, so we encourage open discussion and question / answer sessions. We always have counselors and social workers available to talk about it.
