We are very pleased to announce the publication this month of the sixth edition of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Cormans-Rectal-Surgery-RECTAL-SURGERY/dp/14511111…; target="_blank">Corman's Colon and Rectal Surgery, edited by Marvin L. Corman, MD, professor of surgery and member of our Colon and Rectal Surgery Division.

The publisher is Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Established for over 25 years as "the gold standard in its discipline" (<a href="http://jama.jamanetwork.com/journal.aspx" target="_blank">JAMA), Dr. Corman's new edition, further revised and expanded, covers all diseases and conditions managed by colorectal surgeons as well as general surgeons.

Three co-editors of international repute, including our chief of colorectal surgery, Roberto Bergamaschi, MD, PhD, have participated in the creation of the present updated edition.

The hand of Dr. Corman can be recognized throughout this edition, which, for the first time, carries his name in its formal title. The book has grown to 1,584 pages.

New to this edition are a full-color interior design with detailed art depicting the steps of procedures; comprehensive coverage of the latest laparoscopic diagnostic and surgical management techniques in all areas of the specialty; and a companion website that includes the fully searchable text.

At the Annual Clinical Congress of the American College of Surgeons, held in Chicago during the first week of October, a special program took place to celebrate the publication of the book, and to honor Dr. Corman for this achievement and contribution to the practice of surgery.
