Michael Lewis, a Nursing Assistant II in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), was named the University Hospital Employee of the Month for September. Stony Brook University Hospital CEO Reuven Pasternak MD and Assistant Director of Nursing Rose Cardin RN presented the Award to Mr. Lewis at the hospital’s department head meeting on September 21.
In nominating Mr. Lewis, Ciprian Spenser MD, the former Associate Director of CPEP, described him as “an extremely caring, thoughtful and considerate employee whose sympathy for the patients is genuine and obvious.” Other co-workers in CPEP described him as “respectful”, “highly motivated”, “a team player” and “focused on the safety of patients.” Several remarked on his exceptional care for a young adult patient with autism. A former CPEP patient wrote that Mr. Lewis helped him by listening and offering positive words of encouragement. “Thank you Michael Lewis for showing care and comfort,” the former patient wrote, “As a result of your kindness and concern you gave me hope to get better.”
