Kate is broadly interested in morphology, plasticity, and microevolution. Her dissertation focuses on climactic adaptation in beaver and river otter nasal anatomy, morphological responses to pollution in sea otters, and recent diet and demography-related changes in sea otter skull shape. In the past, she has worked on chimpanzee feet, Drosophila wings, and pangolin arms.
