Dr. Lawver's research interests broadly include paleoology and turtle paleontology. Specifically, he studies the evolution of turtle reproduction as evidenced by the fossil record. This research is accomplished by histological analysis of fossil and modern turtle eggshell and phylogenetics, which seek to answer questions about the highly unusual reproductive anatomy and physiology of turtles. Additionally, he is interested in ontogenetic changes experienced by turtles as they grow and mature, and their diversity during the Cretaceous of western North America.
