Welcome Information (Read Before Rotation)
A little about our team...
Pediatric Radiology Reading Curriculum
During your Pediatric Radiology rotation, you are expected to use the online interactive curriculum from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as your primary source of information.
Please create a log in. It can be accessed at https://open.chop.edu/courses/?search=&filter-categories=radiology
The following are the required modules as they each represent either a common entity that you will encounter frequently, or a problem that requires rapid recognition and treatment to achieve a good outcome. Each module is very informative. We do encourage you to complete as many additional modules as time will allow.
Pediatric Radiology: Basics and Cases
- At the end of this session, learners will be able to understand an overview of radiology modalities, as well as cases and approach to pediatric chest and abdomen radiographs.
Pediatric Upper Extremity
- At the end of this session, learners will be able to understand 10 fracture principles in children, as well as a potpourri of upper extremity fracture case examples.
Pediatric Chest Masses
- At the end of this session, learners will be able to understand a refined approach to CXR assessment, pediatric chest mass pathology, and the role for advanced imaging using case reviews.
Infratentorial Brain Tumors
- At the end of this session, learners will understand the commonality of infratentorial tumors in children, the wide ranges of presented severities, important techniques in pre and postop imaging, and more.
Genitourinary Masses
- At the end of this session, learners will be able to understand differentiating factors of common adrenal masses, tumors of the bladder, ovaries, and testes.
Bone Tumors
- At the end of this session, learners will be able to recognize imaging findings of tumors, formulate a differential diagnosis, recommend work-up and protocols, and provide pertinent information used for staging.
The following are two reference texts available to you as well. There are copies available from the HSC library. You are not expected to read these texts from cover to cover. However, you are likely to find them very helpful.
- Felson's Principles of Chest Roentgenology, 3rd edition By Lawrence Goodman
This textbook walks you through the methods of interpreting a chest X-ray. - Fundamentals of Pediatric Radiology by Lane F. Donnelly MD
This is a comprehensive text that is both well-written and concise and you will likely benefit from having it with you during the rotation.
The following is an additional online resource available to you to supplement your pediatric radiology information. It can be accessed at https://pediatricimaging.org/. It includes a variety of board relevant pediatric radiology cases.
