I am a 3rd year PhD candidate in the Molecular and Cellular Biology program with a specialization in Cellular and Molecular Pathology. I currently work in the Kaczocha Lab of the Anesthesiology Department, in which I study the synaptic transport of brain endocannabinoids (eCBs) by fatty-acid binding proteins, from astrocytes. I earned my BS in Biology with a Chemistry minor from New Jersey City University's honors program in December of 2019. During my undergrad, I conducted neuroscience research in understanding learning, memory, and synaptic plasticity. My projects involved bioinformatics, cell biology, and behavioral studies with crayfish and mice. Upon graduation, I worked as a Medical Lab Technician at BioReference's Cancer Genomics Department, where I extracted DNA/ RNA from patient blood samples and prepped for Next Gen Sequencing. Over time, I gained an appreciation for both basic and clinical research. For my intended project, I will be studying how eCBs are involved in the pathogenesis of epilepsy and if they may aid in anti-epileptic treatments. This project can benefit patients suffering from early to late onset epilepsy in children to adults and lead to potential therapeutics.
