Pittas

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Stony Brook University, where I also completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in BME as well. My doctoral research under Dr. Wei Yin focuses on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and cardiovascular biomechanics. My work combines experimental studies, computational modeling, clinical data analysis, and machine learning to better understand blood-device interactions and the factors that influence membrane lung performance.

As part of the SBMS program, I will expand the clinical perspective of my research by working to better understand how changes within the ECMO circuit relate to patient conditions and clinical decision-making. My goal is to develop more meaningful approaches to evaluating ECMO device function during patient support.
