SBMS Trainee: Ana Candia Flores

I graduated from Farmingdale State College and did a post-baccalaureate program at SUNY Upstate Medical University. I joined the Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology PhD program in 2023 and became a member of Dr. Holly Colognato’s lab in 2024. Her research focuses on the role of AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) signaling in myelination during neurodevelopment and investigates how dysregulation of AMPK might contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders. My SBMS mentor is Dr. Judith Crowell, whose research and clinical work center on parent-child relationships, the attachment system, early childhood, and autism spectrum disorders.
