Megan received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from SUNY Geneseo in May 2011. Upon receiving her undergraduate degree, Megan began her graduate studies in the Pharmacology program at Stony Brook University and joined the laboratory of Dr. Ian Hitchcock. Megan's research has been focused on myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), utilizing an animal model that expresses JAK2 V617F, the most common activating mutation found in patients with MPNs. Recently, in a collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Basil Rigas, Megan has been working on a project investigating the effects of novel phospho-modified NSAIDs on thrombosis and hemostasis. These compounds have the potential to be used as anti-thrombotic agents. Megan is excited to begin the Med-into-Grad program, where she hopes to learn more about how heart disease is treated in the clinic, and how basic science research can be utilized to improve current treatments. Megan is working under the direction of her basic science advisor, Dr. Ian Hitchcock, and clinical mentor, Dr. Lloyd Lense.
