I was born and raised in the beautiful Greece. I received my B.Sc. in Biology with a minor in Neurobiology from the University of Patras in 2012. My undergraduate research predominantly focused on neurotoxicity, cholinergic system aberrations and behavioral dysfunctions. After graduating, I took advantage of the time before starting my master studies, by taking internships associated with the fields of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products and Metabolic Engineering. Subsequently, I obtained a M.Sc. in Biological Technology from the University of Patras in 2015 and my master thesis was focused on the behavioral deficits caused by diabetes, through the induction of oxidative stress. During my PhD studies at Stony Brook University, I intend to build upon my previous research experience and focus on glial biology in brain homeostasis and neuropsychiatric disorders. My thesis research ranges from investigating the initial glial responses towards chronic stress progressing to major depressive disorder (MDD), to the crosstalk links between MDD and inflammation, as well as the associated compromises of the cerebral vasculature in the MDD-affected CNS areas. Apart from academic activities, I have obtained a B.A. in Vocal Performance (Baritone) with a minor in Musical Composition, and I have participated in opera productions of the Greek National Opera House. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, watching movies and spending time outdoors with friends.
