Sitapriya Moorthi earned her Bachelors in Zoology (Honors) from Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, India. Sitapriya went on to receive her Masters in Genomics from Madurai Kamaraj University, India where she discovered her interests in Genetics and Cancer research. After coming to SBU she joined Dr. Chiara Luberto’s lab where she currently works on Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) and Sphingomyelin synthase (SMS). Her current work is focused on understanding the transcriptional regulation of SMS through alternative promoters in CML. Through the Scholars in BioMedical Science program at SBU she hopes to translate her research into a more clinical setting for the purposes of diagnostics and therapeutics.
