The ubiquitin-proteasome (Ub-P) system regulates many cellular processes such as protein turnover, DNA repair, and cell cycle regulation. As a result, the Ub-P system is pharmacologically relevant and is implicated in diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, as well as cancer. My thesis research involves developing a novel approach to elucidate the ubiquitin substrate spectrum of a ubiquitin conjugating enzyme in a yeast model system.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Jules Cohen, my SBMS clinical project involves studying the role of ubiquitin conjugating and ligating enzymes within different sub-classes of breast cancer, and investigating their potential as clinical targets.
