Burnout

Taking Care of Your Personal Well-Being

With all of the recent research on physician burnout that has been published, it has become very apparent that taking good care of your self is equally as important as taking good care of your patients.  The consequences of neglecting important personal, emotional and social needs include feeling compassion fatigue, exhaustion, dissatisfaction with work, and depressed mood. You may also notice feeling detached from others, including your patients, and a reduced sense of accomplishment. If you are experiencing these symptoms and would like to discuss resources and strategies, please contact Adam Gonzalez, PhD adam.gonzalez@stonybrookmedicine.edu
