Jefferson's Ferry Life Plan Community, 12/13/2024: "Aging Initiatives at SUNY Stony Brook"

Dr. Suzanne Fields discusses Demographics of Alzheimer's Disease.Suzanne Fields, MD, FACP, gave a presentation to attendees at Jefferson’s Ferry Life Plan Community in East Setauket, NY regarding Aging Initiatives at SUNY Stony Brook. Topics included the Center for Healthy Aging’s (CHA) research pillars and goals, the CHA Falls Research Project using Accelera Technology to improve gait and balance, and the work being done through the Stony Brook Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease (CEAD) as well as the availability of targeted anti-amyloid therapy for patients.

Dr. Fields is co-director of the CHA and heads the Division of General, Geriatric and Hospital Medicine within the Renaissance School of Medicine's Department of Medicine. She has spearheaded many geriatric medicine-based projects including the Enhanced Geriatric Care Program for older adults, which provides guided care to patients who are frail in the primary care setting. Dr. Fields is currently involved in a research project looking at home telemonitoring and care effectiveness in managing older patients with complex medical conditions.

Following the presentation, a small Q&A session generated great interest and questions from attendees, particularly around fall prevention and the current projects and programs available to the community. Dr. Fields discussed all options with the Jefferson's Ferry community and staff, including how to get involved with the CHA. The Center for Healthy Aging strives to educate the older population as well as assist them when it comes to aging well.
