Avi received his PhD in Chemistry specializing in molecular lipid biophysics and NMR from the University of Arizona in 2010.  He then moved to the Department of Biological and Chemical Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel as a postdoctoral research scholar to study advanced biological MRI and NMR with Prof. Lucio Frydman under support of the Fulbright Award and the National Science Foundation.  In 2014 he moved back to the USA and joined the Department of Medical Physics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an NCI-supported postdoctoral research fellow to conduct preclinical cancer research in the Imaging and Spectroscopic Physics Laboratory of Dr. Jason Koutcher.  He joined the Department of Radiology at Stony Brook University as a Bahl Center for Metabolomics and Imaging assistant professor in the summer of 2019.
