Qiuhua was born and raised in China. After earning a Bachelor's degree from Yunnan University and a Ph.D. from Peking University, she pursued postdoctoral training at the Medical College of Georgia, where she investigated immune and metabolic mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases and retinal degeneration.

Lillian immigrated to the US when she was 10. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Stony Brook University, she started working for Dr. Yang and helped build the lab from the ground up as the first employee. She is currently researching RPE cell metabolism and functionality at Dr. Yang's Lab.

Amrit is a current Master’s student in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. She earned her undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and grew up on Long Island. Her research interests center on translational science, with the goal of connecting basic mechanisms to clinically relevant outcomes, reflecting her long-term interest in pursuing a career in medicine. Outside the lab, she works clinically as an ophthalmic technician and for fun enjoys reading fantasy novels and listening to metal music

Herman graduated from the College of Staten Island in 2022 with a BS in Psychology. He is currently enrolled in a one-year linkage program at the Renaissance School of Medicine. His interest in research was inspired by stories from patients he encountered as an ophthalmic technician, particularly about the impact of eye disorders such as AMD on their daily lives. He is motivated to contribute to advancing the understanding of AMD through his research.

Andrii immigrated from Ukraine when he was 13 years old. He is currently working toward a degree in biochemistry and aspires to a career in medicine, with particular interests in neurology and endocrinology.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, Jing Fei is a senior majoring in biochemistry with an interest in pharmacological research and structural biology. As a member of Dr. Yang’s lab, he is focused on understanding the pathophysiology of retinal diseases such as dry Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Ultimately, Jing Fei intends to translate his experience into a career in clinical medicine.

Wenbin is currently a Junior majoring in Biology at Stony Brook University with an interest in research and laboratory work. He hopes to pursue graduate studies in biological research and looks forward to studying retinal degenerative diseases at Dr. Yang's lab.
