Darlene Jyringi, Program Director of the Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center of Long Island, was honored at the November 9 meeting of the Gerontology Professionals of Long Island for her many years of service to gerontology professionals and the people they serve.
The Gerontology Professionals of Long Island (www.gpli.org) is a professional networking and educational organization comprised of leading experts in the field of aging who practice on Long Island. Ms. Jyringi, a gerontologist specializing in dementia care counseling, served as the group’s President from 2008 through 2010.
Matthew Bessell, who succeeded Ms. Jyringi as President, said “the GPLI Board presented Darlene with a First Nations Sun Pin to remind her of her of our appreciation for her three years of service as President of GPLI.” Noting that the President’s term is usually two years, Mr. Bessell said that the board wanted to thank Ms. Jyringi for serving an extra year. “Her passion and vision hold great meaning for GPLI’s members,” Mr. Bessell added.
The Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center of Long Island is a program of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University. It is a Center of Excellence for the diagnosis and care of Alzheimer’s Disease patients and provides expert assistance to families and caregivers. Ms. Jyringi has been Program Director since 1996.
