The 2012 Match Day was a good one for the Department of Psychiatry
and Behavioral Science residency program. All six positions were filled
in the main match, including four applicants ranked in the top 15 by the
department.
“We were able to attract excellent medical students
from very good schools to our program,” said Michael Schwartz, MD the
residency program director, who pointed out that the program at Stony
Brook competes for students with some of the most prestigious
institutions in the country. “This year was especially competitive
because the number of seniors at U.S medical schools applying for
programs in psychiatry was lower than in prior years,” Dr. Schwartz
noted.
