Michael McClain Receives Community Service Award from the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island

Michael McClain, Director of Communications for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, received the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island’s Award for Community Service at the Council’s Annual Meeting on June 10, 2011.

The award, first presented in 1980, is named for community activists Sandy Lenz and Jim Harnett. It is given annually to a member of the Long Island community who has made a significant contribution to the human services community and the people it serves.

Mr. McClain’s selection was based in part on his activities as the President of the Suffolk Community Council, where he developed and implemented a plan to consolidate the Suffolk Community Council with the Health and Welfare Council, creating a stronger and more efficient advocacy organization representing all of Long Island.
