Psychiatry and Psychology Programs at Stony Brook Rank Among the Best in the World

US News and World Report ranked the Psychiatry/Psychology programs at Stony Brook University #60 among the world's universities based on the programs’ reputation and research activities. The ranking is included in the journal’s inaugural 2015 report on Best Global Universities, which evaluated the world’s top 500 universities in 49 countries.

The rankings were based on 10 weighted indicators that included research reputation, publications, citations, international collaborations and PhDs awarded. The Psychiatry and Psychology programs at Stony Brook scored very favorably on measures of normalized citation impact and percentage of highly cited papers, reflecting the important impact that researchers at Stony Brook are having in their professional fields.

Stony Brook University as a whole ranked #131 among the Best Global Universities, with strong showings from the Physics program (ranked #59 in the world) and the Environment/Ecology program (ranked #78). The Psychiatry/Psychology program at Harvard University was ranked #1, as was Harvard University as a whole. 

The 2015 rankings are U.S. News' first evaluation of higher education institutions worldwide. The publication has produced rankings of Best Colleges in the United States for 30 years and, along with Forbes Best Colleges, exerts a major influence on students’ choice of colleges and programs.
