Overview

It is the responsibility of the students to identify and secure their own sites/preceptors for all supervised experiential learning courses. In addition, a new site must be identified if the Program is unable to secure a Clinical Affiliation agreement with the initially identified site or if the preceptor becomes unavailable. In addition, students are responsible for transportation to and from sites for their supervised experiential learning classes.

Highlights of the Student-Identified Track (Distance):
  • Housed in a large Nutrition Division integrated with the Renaissance School of Medicine and Stony Brook University Hospital. The faculty and staff contribute to the curriculum.
  • Each student will be required to present every other week for a 30 minute video conference with the Program Coordinator or Associate Director to assess attainment of competencies and to provide feedback.
  • Students prepare their own schedules so needed weeks or days off can easily be accommodated.
  • Involved in robust CQI projects and clinical research projects
  • Access to SBU library systems, e-journals, and e-databases (such as Natural Standard)
