Name: Linda-Marie Ustaris, DO

Nickname: Linda

Hometown: Newtown, PA (suburbs north of Philly)

Medical School: Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

Why Med-Peds?: I always knew I loved hospital internal medicine but once I started working with kids I knew I couldn't give up pediatrics. I entered Med-Peds with the plan to be a hospitalist for adults and pediatrics.

Why Stony Brook?: Stony Brook has a strong focus on education and research but has a good balance with giving you enough autonomy to allow you to develop your clinical intuition. The location is perfect to easily access several beaches and NYC. My family is less than 3 hours from Long Island which made weekend getaways possible.

What do you plan on doing when finished residency (if known)?: Med-Peds opens so many opportunities. I plan to do hospital based medicine, whether it is as a hospitalist and/or critical care doctor and try to incorporate outpatient work at a University Health Center.

Outside interests: I've been dancing my whole life and have been trained many fields including ballet, contemporary and African dance. When time allows it, I try to keep up with hip-hop or salsa classes in the city. I also enjoy hiking, kayaking and traveling.
