How to Apply and Interview Day Information

 

We are glad that you are interested in the Stony Brook University Medicine-Pediatrics Program. There are three (3) PGY-1 positions in the Combined Med-Peds program for July 1, 2022.

 We interview from early-November through mid-December. 

Please see the content below for further information you may want to refer to during your application process. If you have additional questions beyond this, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

  • Apply only through ERAS (We do not accept applications outside).
  • Please have all necessary documents to ERAS, which include:
    • Application
    • Dean’s letter/Medical Student Performance Evaluation
    • Three letters of Recommendation: One must be from someone who can attest to your skills in Internal Medicine and one must be from someone who can attest to your skills in Pediatrics. A letter from the department chair is optional
    • Transcripts
    • Board Scores
    • Personal Statement
  • USMLE Steps 1 and 2 or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 Cognitive Eval must be passed within the first two attempts. USMLE Step 2 CS or COMLEX Level 2 Performance Eval must be passed on the first attempt.
  • Prior clinical work experience is not required.
  • Foreign medical graduates must be ECFMG certified by the time the residency program begins.
  • The University does not support H-1 Visas or offer observerships or externships.
  • We will accept applications from those eligible for a J-1 Visa through the ECFMG
  • No more than 10 years since graduation from medical school but less than 5 years is preferred.
  • We participate in couples match.

Interview Day Information

In accordance with the decision of Medicine-Pediatric Residency Programs nationally and the decision of our institution, Stony Brook will conduct virtual interviews for the 2021-2022 application cycle.

The interview season begins in Late October and ends mid-January. Interview dates book very quickly, so responding to your invitation to interview as soon as possible will help ensure you get a date that will work with your schedule.

We have a wonderful interview schedule planned, starting with the evening before your interview day.  Our goal is to help you get a true feeling of our program, spend time with the program director, meet our residents and faculty, and "tour" our facilities.  Our Resident Recruitment Committee has planned a casual/fun evening Resident Social to help you feel more comfortable the night before your interview.  This is will also provide you the opportunity to get to know our amazing residents.

Travelling to Stony Brook

By Car: Take the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) to Exit 62. The Stony Brook ramp exits onto Nicolls Road North (Route 97). Follow Nicolls Road for 9 miles entering the SBUH campus on the right. (Nicolls Road deadends ¼ of a mile north of the hospital.) Please park in the hospital visitor's parking lot, we will validate your parking ticket.

By LIRR (Rail): Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line directly to the Stony Brook campus. Currently, the train reaching Stony Brook at 7:46am will enable you to make a timely arrival for the interview day. University bus service is available on the campus side of the station or call a taxi at 631-473-0707 ($6.00 per person one way). To view schedule go to lirr42.mta.info.

By Ferry: The Port Jefferson ferry runs between Bridgeport, CN and Port Jefferson, NY (631-473-0286; outside New York State 203-335-2040).

The Orient Point ferry runs between Orient Point, NY and New London, CN (Orient Point: 631-323-2525 or New London: 860-443-5281).

By Plane: Exit left from Islip-MacArthur Airport onto NY-454 E/ Veterans Memorial Hwy. Stony Brook exit is approximately 3 miles on the right. Merge onto Nicolls Road north (Route 97) towards Stony Brook. Follow Nicolls Road for 12 miles; turn right to enter the SBUH medical campus. (Nicolls Road deadends ¼ of a mile north of the hospital.) Please park in the hospital visitor's parking lot, we will validate your parking ticket. For ticket info go to www.macarthurairport.com.

New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) are 50 miles to the west. From Kennedy Airport, you may take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station and transfer to the LIRR for the train to Stony Brook (Port Jefferson line).
