Once you have decided on a specialty, there is an electronic application process called ERAS. To complete your application, you will need a personal statement, a curriculum vita (CV), three letters of references and the MSPE (Medical Student Performance Evaluation, formerly called "Dean's Letter"). Completing the 'Activities' section of CBase will help you complete the ERAS application which is very much like a CV. After the applications are submitted, residency programs contact you to set up interview dates. After the interviews, you will have to create an NRMP (National Residency Matching Program) Match list. On Match Day, you find out where exactly you matched. If you were unsuccessful in your match, you will be notified earlier, and the school will help you with other options.
