The Three-Year MD Program at the Renaissance School of Medicine (3YMD@RSOM)

The Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University (RSOM@SBU) three-year MD program, 3YMD@RSOM, offers a limited number of students the opportunity to complete their medical degree in three years. Students accepted into the 3YMD program enter a direct pathway to a RSOM@SBU residency specialty of choice.

Students in the 3YMD program can expect to:

• Save time and tuition costs by completing their MD requirements in three years
• Develop a long term mentoring relationship in your RSOM@SBU residency specialty
• Have a direct pathway for entry into an RSOM@SBU residency specialty
• Enter the physician workforce a year early

Students enrolled in the 3YMD program fulfill the same academic, clinical, and professional requirements as students in the LEARN Curriculum with the exception of some courses and electives occurring during Phase III. 3YMD students:

• Spend 133 weeks in the 3YMD curriculum compared to the 147 weeks of the LEARN Curriculum
• Receive specialty mentorship between the first and second years
• Take four weeks of academic credit prior to the start of the first year

Students accepted into the Renaissance School of Medicine will be able to apply for 3YMD beginning late February 2025.
