Health Sciences Academic Support

Health Sciences Academic Support provides ancillary academic services to the five Health Science Schools of Dental Medicine, Health Professions, Medicine, Nursing and Social Welfare, and the Program in Public Health. While reporting to various units throughout the university, the Academic Support team collaborates to address requests, streamline improvement projects, and optimize communication and project follow-through. Supports to the academic units include:

  • Learning Spaces: Classroom Technology & Support Solutions (historically known as AV Services) provides training, documentation, and technology support in general purpose classrooms and informal learning spaces. Users can borrow technology (laptops, recording equipment, conferencing equipment, etc.), on a daily loan in support of teaching & learning for student success.
  • Library: The mission of the The Health Sciences Library is to provide the quality resources and excellent service needed to support the educational, research, and clinical activities of SBU’s Health Sciences community. Liaison librarians are available to provide instruction sessions on topics such as locating evidence-based resources, techniques for advanced literature searching, and citation management. Classes, individual consultations, and collections requests can be initiated by contacting the librarian directly or emailing refhsclib@stonybrook.edu
  • Admissions and Student Services: The Office of Graduate and Health Sciences Admissions (GHSA) processes admissions for Stony Brook University graduate students, undergraduate upper-division Health Sciences students, and non-matriculated students. Separate admissions offices exist for the Renaissance School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine. GHSA also manages event reservations in the Health Science Center.
  • Assessment and Accreditation: We provide direct and indirect support to the HS Schools and Program in Public Health, by monitoring and coordinating accreditation procedures, facilitating logistics for site visits, fielding data requests (e.g. Middle States), and connecting the SBM to the Office of Educational Effectiveness.
