Dietetic Internship Component
- Complete all rotations by practicing at the facility for the prescribed amount of time, completing all assignments as noted on the assignment checklists and as assigned by preceptors in a timely manner, and obtaining a minimum of 80% "meets or exceeds competency" ratings on all rotation evaluation forms.
- Submit modules on Brightspace on the Monday of the last week of the rotation. The Food Service Management module for the onsite program combines school and food service management and is due when the intern completes the last of these rotations.
- Attend required Orientation and Review & Evaluation Sessions.
- Complete anonymous evaluations of preceptors and rotation sites on Qualtrics using links provided on Brightspace within one week of the end of a rotation.
- Complete time sheet on Google sheets and have the summary signed by your preceptor.
- Onsite interns must attend all seminar meetings, complete all seminar assignments in a timely fashion, and receive a pass grade on seminar assignments. Attendance is taken via a sign-in sheet at all seminar meetings. Attendance for seminar will be noted on each intern's timesheet by the Academic Coordinator.
- Distance interns are required to have teleconference meetings with the Program Coordinator and their preceptor on a bi-monthly basis. The progress of the intern is evaluated during these sessions, and strategies to ensure competencies are met are discussed.
- Demonstrate mature and professional behavior at all times.
- Complete all additional assignments and activities as assigned by preceptors, Program Director or Associate Director to improve upon areas for which intern initially received an evaluation of "needs improvement".
- Clinical and Professional portfolios.
MS in Nutrition Component
- If MS degree earned prior to starting the DI, submission of official transcript conferring degree.
- Complete all requirements of the 36-credits in the Stony Brook University MS in Nutrition Program, unless intern has successfully completed a graduate degree prior to starting the SBU Dietetic Internship (SBU DI) as demonstrated by an official transcript documenting degree conferral, or intern is within 9 credits of finishing a graduate degree and has provided the SBU form showing the plan for completion of that degree.
- Interns admitted without a graduate degree, but who are enrolled in an outside graduate degree program other than the Stony Brook MS in Nutrition, will be required to submit an official transcript conferring the graduate degree before a DI Verification statement will be granted.
- Without a prior MS degree, enroll and successfully complete the Stony Brook University MS in Nutrition.
- Achieve a grade of C+ or better in all courses (must repeat courses with a grade of less than C+).
- Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Satisfy all accounts with the bursar's office.
- Students are encouraged to finish graduate course work in 24 months, although have up to 5 years to complete the MS degree requirements.
- Must remain in good academic standing.
