Our long-term goal is to increase the numbers of underrepresented students entering cancer biology and biomedical science-related research careers. We will do this by broadening the pipeline of underrepresented students interested in science, increasing the numbers of underrepresented students majoring in science and providing these students with enriching education, research and mentoring experiences. What is required for this objective is increasing the retention rate of UR students who enter the STEM fields as freshman. We will continue to mentor them as they apply for admission to graduate programs at our nation’s best research institutions. We have designed a training program and assessment strategy to accomplish these goals. The following summarizes our objectives and assessment strategy.
