Faculty Recruitment: Dr. Jela Bandovic

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dr. Jela Bandovic has joined Stony Brook Medicine today as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Bandovic will join our team of surgical pathologists and will also serve as the Chief of the Gross Anatomic Pathology and Histology Labs. In addition, she will participate in training medical students, residents, and clinical fellows in general surgical pathology and will engage in academic/scholarly activities to support the research missions of the Department of Pathology and the School of Medicine.

Dr. Bandovic earned her medical degree and an M.A. in Gastrointestinal Pathology from University of Tuzla, School of Medicine, Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  She subsequently completed her residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Tuzla, School of Medicine Tuzla and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University. Dr. Bandovic also completed a fellowship in Hematopathology at Beth-Israel Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Dr. Bandovic was employed in 2004 as a Staff Attending Surgical Pathologist (subspeciality gastrointestinal and hematopathology) and in 2011 became Director of Gastrointestinal/Liver Services at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. She also served as Assistant Professor at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hofstra School of Medicine from 2010-2015. Prior to this, Dr. Bandovic was an Assistant Professor of Anatomic Pathology and Attending Pathologist at University of Tuzla, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Chief of Pathology at University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
