Dr. Dennis Galanakis Named First-Ever Recipient of the Clinical Practice Management Plan Lifetime Clinical Service Award

[img_assist|nid=5368|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=144|height=216]Fall 2009 - The first ever recipient of the Clinical Practice Management Plan Lifetime Clinical Service Award, Dr. Dennis K. Galanakis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Director of Blood Bank at Stony Brook since 1980.  Board certified in Pathology, he completed his training in pathology at the Brooklyn College of Medicine (SUNY Downstate) and fellowship in hematology at the New York Medical College.  He also completed a research fellowship in medicine at SUNY Downstate.  Dr. Galanakis has directed the Transfusion Services at Stony Brook since its inception.  Over the course of 30 years, he has built the service, often single-handedly, into an outstanding clinical service, making possible many of the successes achieved in surgical, obstetrical, and oncology programs here at Stony Brook.  He is internationally recognized for his work and is frequently sought as a consultant on challenging cases throughout New York State and the Nation.  Respected by his colleagues and patients, Dr. Galanakis has been described as "having no higher purpose in life than to provide the best possible clinical care to his patients."
