Stony Brook HOME relies on it's medical student volunteers.
Benefits of volunteering at SB HOME for medical students include:

Medical students can volunteer to further Stony Brook HOME's mission during clinic hours and/or outside of clinic hours.
During Clinic Hours
- Clinic manager - manage front desk, coordinate clinic flow, set up new appointments and referrals
- Preclinical student - (first and second year medical students only) - triage patients, take vital signs, assist clinical student with visit
- Clinical student - (third and fourth year medical students only) - performs full history and physical, develops assessment and plan with attending
- EMR student - oversees electronic medical record use, makes electronic copies of paper charts
- Phlebotomy student - performs blood draws, prepares samples for laboratory processing
- Interpreter - Provides Spanish interpreting for patients and medical staff
Outside Clinic Hours
- Scheduling Committee - Schedules patient visits, monitors voicemail account
- Continuity Committee - Follows up on lab, imaging, and referral reports after clinic, reports findings to patients
- Outreach Committee - Organizes outreach events such as Stony Brook Med's annual Health Fair and mini-health fairs in the community performing blood pressure and cholesterol screening
- UCEP Committee - The Undergraduate Clinical Experience Program is a shadowing program for undergraduate students at the clinic. The UCEP Admissions Committee interviews students and directs the program. Medical student volunteers run educational sessions for the students the morning of clinic before shadowing.
- Appropriations Committee - Oversees budget and fundraising practices.

- Research Committee
- Lab Review Committee - Reviews reports, makes recommendations accordingly
- Steering Committee - Six students from each class are selected via an application process to oversee and manage the entire clinic and day to day practices.
- EMR Committee - Oversees electronic medical record use at clinic
