Inpatient Services
The major site of our inpatient practice is University Hospital at Stony Brook Medicine. Patients with kidney diseases or kidney related diseases are admitted to the Renal Service which is staffed by the Attending Nephrologists of the Division. In addition, we provide consultative services to all departments with an emphasis on the various Intensive Care Units (ICUs) including Medical ICU, Coronary ICU, Surgical ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU the Burn ICU. In these settings we provide continuous renal replacement therapy when needed. We also provide consultative services to highly specialized areas of medicine such as the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, High Risk Pregnancy Unit and the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) program. All kidney transplant patients are co-managed with the surgical staff of the Kidney Transplant Unit.

The Attending Physicians of the Division run a group practice in the vicinity of the hospital. Primary and consultative services are provided for the following complaints and conditions:
• Blood in the urine (hematuria)
• Protein in the urine (proteinuria)
• Chronic kidney disease of any cause
• Glomerulonephritis
• Diabetic kidney disease
• Polycystic kidney disease
• Electrolyte disorders (potassium, sodium, calcium)
• Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis)
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• Kidney disease in pregnancy
• Kidney transplantation
