Asha Rath Biography

Asha was first introduced to basic science research when she was in high school. She studied the role of the protein Fetuin-B on placental development under the mentorship of Dr. Brian Ratliff at New York Medical College. She has been interested in biological research since. 

Asha joined the Piret lab as an undergraduate at Stony Brook University in 2022 and graduated in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Political Science. Her current research interests lie in proximal tubule metabolism and sex differences in kidney disease. She is passionate about research, education, and science communication, and plans on pursuing a PhD before continuing her career as a scientist and educator. In her free time, she enjoys reading and watching nature documentaries.
