Respiratory tech/ PFT tech

The Respiratory Therapist performing Pulmonary Function tests will work independently in the Department of Internal Medicine outpatient locations and will be responsible for the following:

 Essential Functions:

  • Perform diagnostic tests on patients including spirometry measurements, vital lung capacity, functional residual capacity, determination of maldistribution of inspired air, arterial blood gas assays, and other pulmonary function testing as needed.
  • Provide patient education including instructions in the proper use of inhalers and nebulizers.
  • Complete all necessary documentation including billing forms when needed.
  • Perform quality control procedures on test equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management


Pulmonologist/Intensivist/Sleep Medicine Specialist

The School of Medicine of Stony Brook University is seeking a PULMONOLOGIST/INTENSIVIST/SLEEP SPECIALIST to join our faculty in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine.  At University Hospital the Division provides 24 hour intensivist coverage and manages a closed 20 bed Medical Intensive Care Unit.  Our practice includes busy inpatient and outpatient consultative services.  In addition our Division offers the following areas of clinical specialization: Pulmonary Hypertension Center, Lung Cancer Evaluation Center, Interventional Pulmonary, and Sleep Disorders Center.  Faculty engage in state-of-the-art research in aerosolized drug and delivery systems, pulmonary inflammatory cytokines, cardiac arrest resuscitation, sleep-related somatic syndromes and outcomes research in critical care. 


Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Instructor, Internal Medicine, Rapid Response/Pulmonary Division (Night Position)

Stony Brook University School of Medicine of the State University of New York invites applications for the position of Nurse Practitioner as part of a dedicated Rapid Response team.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Provide direct patient care to adult inpatients in acute deterioration/crisis situations (Code Rapid Response, Code Blue) and coordinate care with a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, APPs, RNs, respiratory therapists and radiology technicians.
  • Identify patients at risk for clinical deterioration through the use of the Medical Emergency Warning System and hospital rounding and discuss with the primary team to prevent crisis/cardiac arrest.
  • Provide consultation upon request by nursing, physician staff, and other members of the care team with clinical concerns of impending deterioration.
  • Maintain and facilitate professionalism and communication throughout the management of an acute event.
  • Ensure appropriate patient care and monitoring remains until the emergency has resolved or the patient is transferred to a higher level of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts including, but not limited to, documentation and data collection on all rapid responses.
  • Provide education in rapid response and code resuscitation to nursing and medical staff as part of the team of experts, to improve the overall process and patient outcomes.
  • Perform various procedures including, but not limited to, arterial and central venous cannulation.
  • Maintain a level of professional expertise by participating in research, medical education in critical care/emergency management and provide mentorship to nursing and resident staff.
