Welcome to the website of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine of Stony Brook Medicine, the only hospital in Suffolk County, New York designated a tertiary care facility. We invite you to browse our website to learn more about our Faculty, our Patient Care Services, our Fellowship Programs, and our Research activities. Our Division was founded in 1974 with the establishment of the fourth medical school of the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Our deep involvement with and commitment to the education of future physicians enhances our ability to provide high-quality, up-to-date clinical services to our patients. |
We are especially proud of our Fellowship Programs: our three-year combined Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program and our one-year Sleep Medicine Fellowship, both with training sites at Stony Brook University Hospital and the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Northport. All Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellows have the opportunity to spend a full year of their training engaged in research within the Division or with other Medical School or University Faculty. Our Faculty are actively engaged in research, including projects aimed at understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease processes within the lung; developing and optimizing aerosolized drug-delivery systems; interstitial disease, obstructive lung disease and the relationship between sleep-disordered breathing and functional somatic syndromes; and clinical outcomes studies. |
