Medical Student Education: EM US Division

Banner

Stony Brook University Hospital's Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (EM US) division provides opportunities to learn POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound). The division provides an annual Transition to Residency (TTR) US course for students interested in EM, critical care and anesthesia. We also provide a two-week ultrasound Medical Student elective available to 4th year medical students. During this two-week elective, students work closely with ED residents on elective and scan with US faculty and fellows. They are treated as sub-interns and participate in the same weekly journal club and presentations that coincide with the fellow curriculum. Presentations are optional, and medical students will get a chance to improve their base knowledge and be exposed to various applications of Emergency POCUS.
