EM Ultrasound Resident Education

4

Stony Brook University Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a 3-year program graduating 16 residents per year with a total of 48 residents. Resident ultrasound (US) education is spread across all three years providing many US learning opportunities. First-year residents spend two weeks of dedicated time to learning Point-of-Care US techniques and theory with our clinical faculty. During the two weeks, they closely follow the fellowship curriculum, participate in US journal club, and are required to give a brief presentation on a topic of their choosing at the end of the elective. Prior to start of their US rotation, PGY-1's has a one-week procedural rotation in which they spend time learning US guided procedures. Residents in their PGY-2 and PGY-3's, they have the option complete a two-week additional elective to improve their skills.
