Stony Brook School of Medicine Faculty Awards 2016

Purpose: The purpose of the following awards is to recognize and reward excellence among faculty in the various mission areas of the School of Medicine at Stony Brook.

Types of Awards: There will be eight annual awards in the following categories. Each of these awards carries a $1000 cash prize and the designation of the awards on a wall plaque.

Medical Education Award

  1. 24th Aesculapius Award-  Teaching excellence and Scholarship across the Continuum of Teaching

Clinical Awards

  1. Excellence in Clinical Service Award - Surgical / Medical specialty

Research Awards — Open to basic, clinical and translation science excellence

  1. Early Career Research Excellence Award (Associate Professor and up- not eligible)
  2. Senior Research Excellence Award (Assistant Professor not eligible)

Mentorship Award

  1. Excellence in Faculty Mentorship Award: Any faculty member in the SOM is eligible to apply

Faculty Humanism Award: Faculty from any clinical department

  1. Leonard Tow Humanism Award presented by the Arnold P Gold Foundation*
  2. Faculty Citizenship Award
    Open to all SOM faculty. Given to the person who in the past year has exhibited consistent citizenship to further institutional priorities over parochial ones.
  3. Faculty Leadership Award
    Open to all SOM faculty. Given to the person who in the past year has demonstrated consistent leadership and collaborative skills in furthering institutional priorities over parochial ones

General Rules: Depending on the quality and quantity of the applications, not all awards may be given every year. A peer review committee will be responsible for scoring the applications. All awards will be presented at a Faculty Awards Ceremony in the summer. Each of the awards requires a nomination letter, a supervisor letter and three to five letters of support along with an abbreviated curriculum vitae and other documentation to support the award. No packet shall be more than 20 pages including all appendices. Each packet must be submitted as a SINGLE PDF file of all relevant documents.
