2021 Annual Retreat

Location: Sunwood: 90 Mount Grey Road, Setauket, NY 11733

The MSTP Annual Retreat will be held on Saturday, September 18th, 2021 from approximately 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Senior MSTP Fellows make oral presentations on their research, junior research fellows make poster presentations, and all students prepare written research abstracts that are bound and distributed to all MSTP Fellows, their preceptors, Steering Committee members and all others who express an interest. This gives new students the opportunity to meet more senior MSTP Fellows and to be exposed to the range of MSTP research ongoing at Stony Brook. Senior students update each other on their progress and gain invaluable experience in presenting their work to a highly critical audience. Finally, Program Faculty have the opportunity to gauge and appreciate student progress.

The retreat is held at a SBU conference center on the shore of Long Island; weather permitting, it's a gorgeous site for lying in the grass or walking along the beach. Special events differing each year are part of the retreat, including panels by senior students on the Ph.D. years, transitioning back into medical school, and picking residencies. In some years, alumni or senior members of the medical school administration are invited to present on and discuss these or other topics.

Presentations are scheduled for 15 mintues. Students should limit their presentation to 12 minutes and reserve 3 minutes for question & answer period.

The retreat will be divided into 2 sessions, separated by a panel discussion and lunch. Ideally, we would like to have as many faculty present as possible at lunch so that the students can mingle and to discuss progress and opportunities. Finally, Program Faculty are able to gauge and appreciate student progress.
