Dr. Newton joined the Stony Brook Emergency Medicine faculty in 2003 following her return to the U.S. from Auckland, New Zealand, where she worked after sailing there on a 34-foot boat with her husband in 2001. She has held faculty appointments at several medical schools including Harvard and Tufts. She completed an MPH in 2012. Her academic interests include unnecessary care, practice variation in medicine, shared decision making, and medical ethics.
