As part of Stony Brook Medicine, the Department of Emergency Medicine has full use of its $4 million Simulation Center. Home to multiple full capacity resuscitation rooms, including a Laerdal SimMan and SimBaby, the Simulation Center allows residents to work in a real ER environment dealing with the sickest of patients. It allows for focused training on all the vital procedures of EM, including tube thoracostomy, cricothyroidotomy, central line placement and intubation. Resuscitation sessions are videotaped, allow for both real time assessment and cumulative debriefing, and are an integral part of our residency training. Our residents also participate in our annual "Sim Wars," pitting tiered teams of residents against one another for the title of Sim Champion and the opportunity to represent Stony Brook Medicine on the national level at yearly conferences. |
