About ACES

Events

The Academy of Clinical and Educator Scholars—ACES—was founded in 2014 by a generous donation from Drs. Miriam and David Donoho to enhance the educational mission of Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

Membership in the Academy signifies outstanding contributions to the educational mission of the School of Medicine. Fellows are selected through a competitive application process based on their accomplishments in one or more aspects of medical education.

Accepted ACES Fellows will receive one-on-one mentorship from ACES Mentors to carry out a scholarly project pertaining to medical and clinical education. All ACES Fellows will benefit from faculty development sessions, workshops and our Annual ACES Retreat. It is our expectation that ACES Fellows will be identified by faculty and students as leaders in medical and clinical education.

In the inaugural cohort, nine Fellows of ACES were chosen from 19 applicants in March 2014. These ACES Fellows created the Stony Brook Teaching Families (SBTF)—five simulated families that have been incorporated into the medical school curriculum to provide clinical and psychosocial context of patient care in the preclinical years.
