Dr. Nirvani Goolsarran is an Academic Hospitalist and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine. She also serves as one of the Associate Program Director for Quality and Safety of the Internal Medicine Residency, and the Associate Vice Chair for Quality, Patient Safety, and Compliance in the Department of Medicine. These clinical and administrative roles have enabled her to focus on improving the learning environment for our residents and integrate patient safety/harm prevention into clinical practice.
Dr. Goolsarran graduated from Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Stony Brook and was selected to serve as Chief Resident thereafter. Dr. Goolsarran’s research areas of interest include medical education, quality improvement and patient safety research. Her passion is active engagement in process improvements and using a systematic approach to analyze medical errors.
Dr. Goolsarran is graduate of the Society of Hospital Medicine Quality and Safety Educators Academy Patient Safety Training Program; and a Certified Master Trainer of the AHRQ TeamSTEPPS Patient Safety Training Program. She has served as a regional Quality Improvement (QI) mentor as part of Society of Hospital Medicine QI education initiative. Dr. Goolsarran’s true passion is medical education and her leadership role in Patient Safety allows her to focus on patient safety and quality improvement education across the Department.
Dr. Goolsarran has won numerous teaching awards including the Attending Teacher of the Year, Inpatient Attending of the Year and Faculty Mentorship awards. She has also been inducted to the distinguished Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
