We are proud to say the Stony Brook Combined Med-Peds Program has the full support of our two parent programs – the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Pediatric Residency Program. As a combined residency program, we are fortunate to be able to take advantage of the strengths of both programs. Some of the highlights include:
Internal Medicine:
- A “closed faculty” system, wherein an attending is responsible for all education and patient care for the medical team.
- Strong emphasis on the teaching mission, including a substantial expansion of the hospitalist program, allowing for a good balance between service and education and appropriate offloading of patient care.
- Strong clinical program including state of the art centers for cardiac care, oncology, digestive diseases, and neurosciences.
- Academic Wednesdays, including an enhanced simulation experience for all Internal Medicine and Med-Peds residents.
Pediatrics:
- Our new state-of-the-art Stony Brook Children’s Hospital opened in late 2019, enhancing the already strong reputation as a regional referral center for Long Island and the surrounding community.
- Well-designed board review course that the Med-Peds residents participate in.
- Resident research rotation that provides residents interested in research or a career in a subspecialty ample guidance and time to put together a well-designed research project within the constraints of a residency schedule.
- Academic Wednesday designed to maximize protected learning for our Med-Peds residents.
