Reflecting the vision and leadership of its founder and director, Aurora Pryor, MD, and associate director, Konstantinos Spaniolas, MD, the Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center has become a leader nationally and internationally through advanced clinical care, research, advocacy and mentorship of the next generation of surgeons.
Extensive Surgical Experience. More than 4,000 surgeries performed, including 1,800 bariatric procedures, over 95 percent of them laparoscopically.
Furthering Knowledge. Published in more than 100 peer-reviewed publications; editors of four textbooks, more than 170 presentations made worldwide; testifying to the FDA on the need or obesity treatment options.

Research, Innovation and Surgical Technology Patents. Current research focus: advancing laparoscopic bariatric surgery techniques and outcomes; new technology in surgery and surgical training; emerging bariatric practices, surgical education and simulation; and foregut pathology. Dr. Pryor also holds patents for several surgical technologies.
Setting Performance Standards Nationally. Our research in performance measurements is being used to inform national bariatric surgery center standards.
Top Level Accreditation and Quality. Accredited at the highest possible level – “Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Qualifications” by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Ranked among the top centers nationally for bariatric surgery patient outcomes reported to MBSAQIP.
Training Surgical Fellows. Trained and mentored 28 surgical fellows in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
