The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery comprises our clinical faculty of board-certified colorectal surgeons, research team members, and support staff dedicated to our mission of excellence in the care of patients with colon and rectal disease; the education of medical students and surgical residents in the art of colorectal surgery; the performance of basic and translational research aimed at advancing the surgical management of colorectal disease; and community service, such as screenings for colon cancer.

The Division’s faculty have been recognized for its clinical excellence by selection for inclusion in past editions and the latest edition (2010) of the Castle Connolly Guide, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, representing the top 10% of physicians in the New York Metropolitan area, and also for inclusion in Best Doctors in America database, representing the top 5% of doctors nationwide.
The faculty’s scholarly activity is distinguished by their many achievements, including editorship of the leading textbook on colorectal surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery (“the gold standard in its discipline” — JAMA); publication of well over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals within the past decade; and editorships on the boards of leading journals in the field, such as Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, the official journal of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
