Dr. Mackenzie received his Ph.D. from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2004 and did postdoctoral work at the University of California, Davis prior to joining the Division of Cancer Prevention at Stony Brook in October 2007.  At Stony Brook, he raised on the ranks from Senior Postdoctoral Associate to Instructor of Medicine and in 2013 Assistant professor in the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine and an independent Investigator at the Stony Brook Cancer Center. His main area of research, focuses on the evaluation of novel targets and mechanism-based pharmacological and natural agents for the prevention and treatment of cancer, in particular pancreatic cancer.
