Dr. Igarashi stands alongside William Wertheim, MD, MBA, Interim Executive Vice President for Stony Brook Medicine and Endowed Chair in Graduate Medical Education.

“Many of you entered medical school in 2020 during the worst waves of the Covid-19 pandemic," says Dr. Igarashi. "You did that to pursue your dream of becoming a physician. Today that dream becomes a reality."
Dr. Wertheim takes to the podium to address the Class of 2024.
RSOM faculty and graduating students acknowledge the family and loved ones who have turned out for the ceremony.
Dr. Wertheim says he is "confident" that the skills today's graduates have learned at Stony Brook will be foundational throughout their medical careers.
Dr. Fauci is introduced and greeted at the podium by Dr. Igarashi.
Dr. Fauci is welcomed with thunderous applause from RSOM faculty, the graduating class and the audience in the stands.
Dr. Fauci thanks the Renaissance School of Medicine for inviting him to be the keynote speaker for its 50th Convocation.
“Your journey has been exceptional, and in some cases unprecedented,” Dr. Fauci says, referring to the graduates' medical school experience amid a global pandemic.
The Class of 2024 hear Dr. Fauci's advice to expect the unexpected, beware of the insidious nature of anti-science and recognize the consequences of a divided nation.
"Our collective future is truly in your hands," Dr. Fauci tells the graduates.

Though it's the RSOM's 50th Convocation, the hooding ceremony—which recognizes graduates earning master's or doctoral degrees—dates back to European universities as far as the 11th century.
Graduating medical school is an achievement that is celebrated not only by the graduates, but also by those closest to them.
The graduates join Dr. Igarashi in reciting the Hippocratic Oath—their first time as MDs.
